Regular attendance is vital to students achieving well and reaching their full potential. If a young person is unable to attend lessons for any reason their parent or carer should telephone SchoolsCompany South and West Devon Academy (01803 865580) to let us know the reason. Taking holidays during term time cannot be authorised by the academy.
At SchoolsCompany South and West Devon Academy our expectation is that everyone behaves with respect and consideration for others. We believe in a restorative approach to conflict and behaviour issues. This means that we seek to recognise and address the causes of the behaviour and find resolution to problems.
Listening and acting upon young people’s views
In our centres we encourage student participation and have a student council. Young people in Key Stage 3 and 4 are represented on the student council and have opportunity to voice their opinions and influence change. Students who are taught out of the centre should let their teacher know if there is an issue that they would like to raise. All young people will be asked to complete a simple questionnaire at the end of each term giving their views of the service that they have received from SchoolsCompany South and West Devon Academy.
Bullying of any kind will not be tolerated. Parents and carers will be notified and steps will be taken to protect others from harmful behaviour.
Mobile phones must be turned off and kept out of sight during lessons.
Smoking is not allowed on SchoolsCompany Trust property.
Drugs and alcohol
Parents / carers will be asked to collect young people who are thought to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Students who are believed to be in possession of illegal drugs will be reported to the police.
Damage to property and assaults on staff
If a young person causes damage to SchoolsCompany South and West Devon property, parents and carers are expected to contribute to the cost. Assaults on staff and other students will be taken seriously and could result in prosecution.
